A Prayer Walking Adventure
A few weeks ago, I was speaking about New Age practices at an Intercessor’s conference. The speaker before me talked about prayer walking. He told incredible testimonies from his prayer walks in the Finger Lakes of New York. His lecture inspired me to prayer walk my area of Dallas, Texas.
When I returned home, I shared all the prayer walking testimonies with my husband. He agreed that we needed to do this over our area. The next morning we headed out the door to prayer walk with our dogs, SusieQ and Roxy.
We lived in the Design District in Dallas which is an industrial area turned artist hotspot. (You can see some of David’s artwork here.) The area is next to the Trinity River bottom. We often walked our dogs in the river bottom so they could run freely and play in the water.
The area never had a peaceful feeling so David and I set about to reclaim the land for God. We started our walk with a prayer and said, ?God we are declaring this land for you and we pray for Your peace over it?. Please keep in mind that we had never done this before. We had no clue how to proceed but we set off and trusted the Lord to guide us.
We were walking along and having a great time. About 20 minutes into our walk, I became very troubled. We were behind the jail/prison so I prayed for the inmates. We continued walking and I saw a piece of land just off the gravel road. I walked over there and immediately knew in my spirit a murder occurred at that spot. There was no blood but I KNEW someone was killed there.
I am looking down at the ground and praying, rebuking the spirit of death, murder, proclaiming the land for the Lord, and declaring life and peace will be restored to the area. As I am doing this, my husband walks ahead of me and finds a human skull about 20 feet away. When he yelled to tell me that he had discovered this skull, I was not at all surprised. It just confirmed what I was feeling.
Not really knowing how to proceed, I continued my prayer by walking all over the ground that felt defiled. My husband called 911 after we discovered the skull. The skull was clean, no hair, no teeth, no flesh.
The police took note but did not really seem interested. We both felt the need to continue walking. We then discovered a portion of a torso, jeans, belt, shoes, etc. David called 911 again and this time they sent out a team. We stayed in the area for the police to arrive.
While we were waiting we were reclaiming the land and declaring life over it. I was joyous that the Lord had answered my prayer in such a mighty way. He wants to reclaim the land and shed light on a very, very dark area.
The authorities finally arrived and several police officers asked what we were doing down there. We explained we were on a prayer walk and proceeded to tell them the details. I am sure they thought we were completely nuts!!
Once the first response police team saw that there was indeed a skull and torso, they called for homicide detectives. The scene now became a crime scene. They think that the murder happened within the last month. They no longer needed us there so the Homicide team roped off the area and we left. Before we headed back home, we prayed for the police officers and ask the Lord to bless them.
After what I considered a very victorious and somewhat strange dog walk, I had a chance to settle down and assess what truly happened. I finally asked the Lord what He thought about the events of the day. Honestly, I was expecting to get a huge pat on the back from being such a Super Prayer-Walking Christian.
When the Lord spoke, He simply told me ?I knew him.?
Several days passed until I fully grasped what the Lord was saying to me. I was so wrapped up in my Super Christian Cape that I completely missed what truly happened. The Lord KNEW him! God created him, He knit him together in his mother?s womb, God knew what He put in that man, He knew his potential ? God KNEW him and was grieved that he had died. This man was probably not sitting in a church pew at the time of his death.
Our Heavenly Father loves us so much, He was grieved for a man that had been discarded in the Trinity River bottom, He was grieved because He lost a child, He KNEW that man. He was grieved for a man that had likely rejected Him. God truly loves us. I pray that we can grasp the depths of His love, it frees us from bondage, it unlocks that gates of hell, it allows us to be who God created us to be.
My prayer today is that if anyone reading this has not given your heart to Jesus you can do so today. Turn to Him! You will not regret it.
Here is a simple prayer, Jesus is waiting.
Lord Jesus, I ask You to forgive my sins and save me from eternal separation from God. By faith, I accept Your work and death on the cross as sufficient payment for my sins. Thank You for providing the way for me to know You and to have a relationship with my Heavenly Father. Through faith in You, I have eternal life. Thank You also for hearing my prayers and loving me unconditionally. In Jesus? name, Amen.
I want to encourage all believers to pray over your house, your block, your city, your state and your nation. Prayers make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
