Who told you so?
In Genesis 3:9-11, the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?“
Adam replied, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.“
God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
This is one of my favorite passages in the entire bible. I believe that “who told you?” is one of the most powerful questions we can ask because it causes us to stop and think. In the case of Adam & Eve there was not another person in the Garden to tell them anything, so who told them they were naked?
- Who told you that no one liked you?
- Who told you that you would not amount to anything?
- Who told you that your situation was hopeless?
When we stop and ask ourselves who told us this information it helps us to pinpoint the source of our thought. Sometimes these words came from another person but any thought or word that does not line up with the Word of God is from the devil. Period. The person speaking is just a mouthpiece of Satan.

2 Corinthians 10:5 says to take every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
That means every thought. It is possible. 1 John 2:20 says that we have an anointing from the Holy One, and know all things.”
The Apostle Paul says we are transformed by the renewing of our mind and we are to think on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely and of a good report (Romans 12:2, Philippians 4:8).
Our thoughts are Satan’s primary target. Satan lies and always has (John 8:44). He only wants to steal, kill and destroy everything, including your hope for the future (John 10:10).
Join us on our 40-Day Journey to Find Hope!
Jesus Christ is our Living Hope (1 Peter 1:3) and anything that Satan can do to destroy our belief in Jesus, he will. Jesus made a public spectacle and disarmed all of Satan?s principalities and powers (Colossians 2:15). Even though Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33) we often choose to listen to the lies of the enemy.
My challenge questions to you today are:
- Who told you that?
- Who are you listening to?
- Is the Word of God your plumbline or is the voice of Satan your guiding principle?
- Who do you choose to believe?

I encourage you to spend some time looking for scriptures that speak directly to your situation. Meditate on them and refer back to the Word rather than Facebook. Write the scriptures on index cards, in Evernote or some note-taking app on your phone. I use both methods however I prefer the index cards.
If you would like scriptures on a particular topic or have any questions, please email me at Michelle@FindingHopeJourney.com. I really enjoy hearing from you.
