Trust and Obey
Trust and obey. Do you remember that old hymn? As we begin the second half of our 40-Day Journey, I was just asking the Holy Spirit where He wanted to go and how He wanted to do it. He simply told me to trust and obey.
Immediately I thought of this old hymn. I am very familiar with this song and can hum the tune all day long except I don’t know the words. Know what I mean? This is a song I have sung many, many times but I can only remember the chorus. So I googled it.
“When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He shed on our way; while we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey” This is the first verse of Trust and Obey. As I read these words I just laughed. I realized that I did not need Him to lay out the remaining 20 days for me, I just needed to ‘trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.’
Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
What are you hoping for? Can you see it? No, otherwise why do you need hope? Romans 8:24 says “For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?”
Jesus says to Thomas in John 20:29, ?because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.? Hope is in the unseen, hope is in the belief that something good will happen, hope is in the person of Jesus Christ.
How many times do we want everything mapped out for us so we can proceed safely down the path? Not only do we want to path cleared we want the appropriate traffic signs. Stop, don?t go there. Yield to oncoming traffic. One-Way, definitely go this way. U-turn, oops headed the wrong way but you can turn around. Merge, watch out for oncoming traffic.
When Jesus called His disciples, He just said ?Follow Me.? He is calling us the same way, ?Follow Me?. No map, no road signs. Just staying close to Him, the One that leads us down the narrow pathway. (Matthew 7:14). We need to trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.
Are you willing to follow Him and trust Him for what you cannot see? Are you willing to place your hope in Him? I hope so, Jesus tells us we are blessed if we believe in what we cannot see.
Lord, help me to believe in what I cannot see. Help my unbelief. Forgive me for not trusting You. Lord give me Your eyes to see what I cannot. I lay down the fear of the unknown and I trust You with ____________ today. I have no idea how it will work out but I believe in You.
