Got any trials in your life? Do you have any struggles that just do not seem to disappear?
Over the last few years, it seems as if most of the people I counsel have endured many trials, not just a few inconveniences but trials that are life-altering. Can you relate?
James 1:2-4 says to count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience and when patience has its final work in you, you will lack nothing. When James says we will lack nothing that means we will lack nothing which includes hope. This passage lines up with Romans 5:1-5 which says that hope is the end product of tribulations.
Some days we may find it really difficult to count all the trials in our lives as joy. We grow weary of the constant bombardment of bad news and negative thoughts. On those days, we must gain control of our thinking and cast down all the thoughts that do not line up with the Word of God (2 Corinthians 10:5).
The good news is that it is possible to be joyful while we are enduring. We must keep our eyes on Jesus, lay aside our will and choose to do the Father’s will (Luke 22:42). In Hebrews 12:2 the author says that for the joy that was set before Him, Jesus endured the cross. If Christ could find joy in the cross then it is possible for us to find joy in any trial.
Take 15 minutes today and write down your answers to the challenge questions below. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you identify and cast down thoughts that do not line up with the Word of God. If you need some scripture suggestions to replace some of your thinking, you can download a guide here.
Lord thank you for all that You are doing in my life. Please show me where You are working and help me to identify thoughts that do not line up with Your Word. Help me to see through Your eyes and place my focus on Jesus, the Eternal One. Show me how to be a blessing to someone today. Lord help me to take my eyes off of me and place them on Jesus, my Living Hope.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
